Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month
With June arriving, we start the summer honoring Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. Throughout this month people show their support and advocacy by wearing purple, the official color of the Alzheimer’s movement. Thousands of families and friends come together to show their support for everyone affected by Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is the only leading cause of death that cannot be prevented, cured, or even slowed, so we take this month to highlight the impact Alzheimer’s has on millions of people.
Anyone can be at risk of Alzheimer’s, and it is important to eat brain healthy food in order maintain good brain well-being. Some examples of brain healthy foods:
Blueberry French Toast
Raisin Bran Cereal
Mixed Fruit Bowl with Blackberries, Plums, Strawberries and Cantaloupe.
Alzheimer’s is very difficult for family members, too. On the Summer Solstice - June 21st – the longest day of the year, we dedicate the entire day to the individuals facing this disease and their loved ones. This day is full of love and support for these individuals whether it being showing support or helping raise funds.
Overture Home Care and other area senior health care companies are participating in the Alzheimer’s Association’s Tour of Fort Worth – an all-day event. Join us on at Stop 4 from 12pm-1pm, where we’ll be making succulent gardens at Lifecare Hospital of Fort Worth. A $25 ticket buys an all-day pass, and proceeds benefit the fight against Alzheimer’s.
