September is Healthy Aging Month — Help for the Homebound

In our last entry, we wrote about how to help your older loved ones build healthy, active lifestyles in manageable, gentle and safe increments. Now, we'd like to address the activity needs and challenges of a special group of seniors — those who are homebound.

Currently, up to 3.6 million people over age 65 in the U.S. are considered homebound due to medical conditions, mobility issues, memory or mental health disorders or the lack of necessary assistance and support.

Remaining active can be a steep challenge for a homebound senior. All the assistance, positivity and encouragement that we recommended in our last post are doubly important for loved ones whose physical range is limited. But remember, homebound seniors often need more than physical activity and stimulation. A truly healthy lifestyle requires mental and social activity and stimulation as well. For the homebound, outlets for such activity can be hard to find.

Please click the link below and download our How to Help Homebound Seniors Stay Active PDF guide full of tips to help you find in-home physical activities as well as mental and social stimulation with hobbies, games and communities that can be safely accessed and enjoyed from home.

And please remember that the compassionate caregivers at Overture are happy to help you banish isolation and spark joy for your homebound loved ones — and we’re always just a phone call away. Contact us 24/7 for a free consultation: (817) 887-9401
