Easy Meal Tips for Seniors
We recently had the opportunity to attend a Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County presentation from their dieticians about health and nutrition for our seniors. As our family members age, appetites decline, and factors like illness, medication, or arthritis can affect ability, energy, and desire to prepare and eat nutritious meals. Plus, if your family member has dementia, using the stove is particularly dangerous, so these tips require no heating or use a microwave.

Your Loved One Has Arthritis. Does That Mean They Need Help?
Arthritis is painful inflammation and stiffness of the joints. Unfortunately, arthritis affects roughly around 50% of people who are 65 years or older. It can affect any joint in the body, and, in extreme cases, can lead to unbearable pain.
We understand the prevalence and degrees of severity of arthritis, as well as the tremendous pain it can cause, particularly as your loved ones simply try to go about their daily lives.

Physical Therapy in the Fight Against Opioid Addiction
As we age, our mobility diminishes, and the aches, pains, and injuries increase. So, when our blood pressure medication contributes to a fall, and we’re hurt, what do the doctors do? Prescribe yet another medicine. Now there’s another, more powerful, pill to manage, and an addictive one at that, and one that can cause even more catastrophic falls. Is there a solution to this pain > injury > medication loop? Actually, there is.
Tech in Aging - Should Grandma Get an Apple Watch?
At Overture Home Care, we are always looking for ways to make our clients lives better, and to help their families stay connected with their care. We recently read this Wall Street Journal article about the new Apple Watch Series 4, and one thing in particular caught our attention: the watch’s new feature that detects a fall, and if the wearer does not respond, emergency contacts are notified. Be sure to check out the article and consider if it’s time for your loved one to get a new device. Given its ability to truly detect a fall and contact for help if the wearer is unresponsive, this could change a situation’s outcome from grave to serious.
