Be Aware of Products Claiming to Treat Alzheimer's Disease
Alzheimer’s affects many people we care about, and we know that family members can feel desperate to do anything to stop this terrible disease. Some companies take advantage of this desperation.
Unfortunately, there are more and more misleading products on the market that advertise helping Alzheimer’s disease. Fortunately, the Food and Drug Administration has started to crack down on companies that sell products claiming to treat or cure Alzheimer’s disease.
However, it’s still critical to be aware that not all Alzheimer’s treatments are created equally.
As of February 2019, the FDA has found over 58 illegally-marketed products - unapproved drugs/dietary supplements - that claim to treat Alzheimer’s. Not only are these products falsely advertised, but, even worse, they can be unsafe for consumers.
We recommend you check all products your loved one is taking if they claim to treat Alzheimer’s, and cross check to see if they have been approved by the FDA. Also, please check with your loved one’s doctor.
