Honoring Caregivers in November

November is National Family Caregivers Month. According to a National Alliance for Caregiving / AARP study, about 34.2 million Americans provide unpaid care to a senior adult every year. At Overture Home Care, it is our mission to provide support for those family caregivers as they work tirelessly on behalf of their senior loved ones.

November is also Home Care Aide Month — and it is also our mission to provide training, support and recognition for the compassionate caregivers who work side-by-side with those dedicated family caregivers: the home care aides from Overture Home Care. As you can see from the Value of Home Care infographic linked below, the services provided by those home care aides are valuable both personally and to our medical system and entire economy.

In honor of those dedicated family caregivers and compassionate home care aides, we’d like to offer the following links to organizations that exist to provide essential resources, training, advocacy, and information for both groups.

First, please visit the Caregiver Action Network (CAN) at the link below. We recommend that you take time to visit their Family Caregiver Toolbox, which offers information on everything from specific medical conditions to time management assistance, as well as the 10 Tips for Caregivers page, which reminds you to be aware of and supportive of your own mental health. If you would like to find your own supportive community of family caregivers, CAN has recently launched a dedicated Community Facebook group, which you can join here.

Next up, we’ve included a link to the National Association for Home Care & Hospice, a nonprofit organization that represents the nation’s 33,000 home care and hospice organizations and provides advocacy, education, and assistance for the more than two million nurses, therapists, aides, and caregivers employed by such organizations to provide in-home services to the over 12 million Americans who are infirm, chronically ill, or disabled. Please browse the Education and Events tabs for opportunities — and consider clicking on the Advocacy tab to add your voice to the organization’s as they advocate for patients and providers with policymakers, the public, and more.

Last, but certainly not least — Overture Home Care is honored to serve as Platinum Sponsor at the National Placement & Referral Alliance (NPRA) 4th Annual Dallas Dementia Symposium featuring Teepa Snow on December 5, 2023. All family caregivers, home care aides, and other caring professionals are invited to attend this enlightening full-day conference, either in-person at the Tolleson Family Activity Center in Dallas, or live-streamed online. Please click the link below for more information and to purchase tickets.
