Join us in celebrating nurses this National Nurses Week, May 6-12

Every year we honor the hard work and dedication of professional nurses during National Nurses Week, starting on May 6 and ending May 12 (Florence Nightingale's birthday!)

Overture Home Care was founded and is still directed by a registered nurse. Providing RN Managed Care under the RN Delegated Task Rules set forth by the Texas Board of Nursing has always been an important part of our care mission. We hope that you’ll join us this month in celebrating the contributions of Overture’s professional nurses — our founder and Chief Executive Officer Denise Helms (BSN, RN, CDP), Lead Clinical Nurse Liaison Cherae Slack (RN), and Nurse Liaisons Laura Satterfield (BSN, RN), Gail Boyer (RN, BAAS) and Ashley Wills (LVN).

In recognition of the 2023 Nurses Week theme of "You Make a Difference," we would like to share a recent story in which one of our nurses truly did make a difference for an Overture Home Care client.

Nurse Liaison Gail Boyer was performing her support duties at one of our affiliated senior residences when an older resident came in complaining of shortness of breath. Gail checked her blood pressure and listened to her chest sounds with a stethoscope, and everything seemed clear. But Gail didn’t stop there. She also noticed an irregular heartbeat that the resident had never experienced before. For a trained nurse like Gail, that triggered a warning, and a recommendation that the resident make an immediate appointment with her PCP for an electrocardiogram (EKG).

The EKG revealed a potentially life-threatening atrial fibrillation that might otherwise have gone undiagnosed. That senior resident was hospitalized and treated for her condition and is now back at home feeling much better — thanks to a quick and professional assessment from Overture Home Care nurse, Gail Boyer.
