Cruising into Summer: Highlights from the Tarrant Area Gerontological Society’s Annual Summer Forum
Several of our Overture team members attended The Tarrant Area Gerontological Society’s (TAGS) Annual Summer Forum on July 16th. The theme for this year’s event was “Cruising into Summer,” featuring six hours of continuing education units (CEU’s) with various keynote speakers covering important current topics in the geriatric healthcare field.
One presentation by Dr. April Wiechmann, PhD, FNA, focused on the importance of maintaining brain health in geriatric patients, and we thought it was especially valuable to share with you.
According to an article by AdventHealth Whole Health Institute, there are six pillars to brain health: exercise, stress reduction, sleep and relaxation, socialization, medications and supplements, and food and nutrition. Lifestyle profoundly impacts brain health. What you eat and drink, how much you exercise, how well you sleep, the way you socialize, and how you manage stress are all critically important. Dr. Wiechmann particularly emphasized the roles of socialization and exercise.

Along with attending the speaker presentations, Overture Home Care proudly sponsored and participated in the Cruise Ship theme of the event. Our booth, designed as the Cruise Ship Security Team complete with metal detectors and a conveyor belt, was a crowd favorite. We handed out Overture-branded pocket knives, toy water guns, and mini liquor bottles, humorously presented as items confiscated by security. We’re excited to share that our booth won the annual contest for Best Booth!
We highly value continuing education and community events like the TAGS summer forum that allow us to connect with our community and stay current with the latest advancements in healthcare. By engaging and learning from great minds in the healthcare field, we ensure that our team is well-informed and equipped to provide the best care to our clients.
