Out and About with Overture Home Care: October 2024
October was a vibrant month filled with events that showcased our commitment to community, education, and wellness. From educational talks to fun social gatherings, we made the most of every opportunity to connect with residents, partners, and advocates. Here’s a recap of our October activities!
Join Overture Home Care on the 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer’s®
We’re doing it again! On October 28 in Fort Worth — and November 4 in Dallas — Overture Home Care will be sponsoring and participating in the 2023 Alzheimer's Association® Walk to End Alzheimer's®.
FDA greenlights Leqembi® for the treatment of early Alzheimer’s disease.
This month we are thrilled to join the Alzheimer’s Association in celebrating the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) action to grant traditional approval of Leqembi® (lecanemab) for the treatment of early Alzheimer's disease with confirmation of elevated amyloid beta.
Join Overture Home Care for The Longest Day® events in Fort Worth and Dallas
Every year, we are proud to join the Alzheimer’s Association® in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by sponsoring The Longest Day fundraising and educational events around the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.
Join Overture and Dementia CARES for Caregiver Education and Support
As we recognize National Family Caregivers Month this November, we must also recognize National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month — and the connection between the two through the family members devastated by the demands of caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month
At Overture Home Care, we participate in Alzheimer’s awareness and fundraising events not just in November, but throughout the year. This year we supported Longest Day events in June, and many of our team members took part in the Fort Worth Walk to End Alzheimer’s on October 30. Our commitment extends into our daily work as well. Since 2018, we have been a Dementia Live® authorized organization and we are dedicated to providing empathic and enriching care for our clients with cognitive impairments, including those with Alzheimer’s disease. Although the root cause of this terrible disease has not been fully determined and there is no current cure, there are supportive therapies, interventions and directed activities that can make life with Alzheimer's easier for patients and more bearable for their families.
Do you struggle starting activities with your loved one with Alzheimer’s?
Recreational activities, familiar hobbies, work-related pursuits, involvement in daily tasks and social interaction can help people living with Alzheimer's remain engaged and content, reducing agitation and potentially dangerous wandering behavior.
Why is Overture Home Care different?
At Overture Home Care, we provide care to our clients with Alzheimer's in the familiar warmth of their own homes, allowing them to age in place with dignity and comfort.
Repetition and Alzheimer’s
Is your loved one with Alzheimer’s saying or doing the same thing over, and over… and over? The Alzheimer’s Association’s website has some helpful information as to why this is happening, and how you can respond to help make things easier.
Choosing the Right Activities Can Help Alzheimer’s Patients
Alzheimer’s is overwhelming for all involved – not only for the patient, but for their family, too. While the individual may retreat, keeping them engaged and active in appropriate ways is actually quite helpful and positive. Everyone wants to feel needed and useful, and that includes individuals with Alzheimer’s. But how do you begin?
