Join us in celebrating nurses this National Nurses Week, May 6-12
Overture Home Care was founded and is still directed by a registered nurse. Providing RN Managed Care under the RN Delegated Task Rules set forth by the Texas Board of Nursing has always been an important part of our care mission. We hope that you’ll join us this month in celebrating the contributions of Overture’s professional nurses
Getting to Know You, Dallas!
Since opening our second office in Dallas, Texas earlier this year, Overture Home Care has been out and about in our new neighborhood, getting to know the community through the wonderful senior-friendly and caregiver assistance organizations that call this vibrant city home.
This Parkinson’s Awareness Month we’re strengthening our commitment to Parkinson’s dementia patients and their families through Dementia Live® training.
The theme for this year’s Parkinson’s Awareness Month is #Take6forPD. According to the Parkinson’s Foundation, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease every six minutes. To fight back against that grim statistic, the foundation has created checklists of six-minute actions that anyone can take to help advance research, improve access to care, or empower and educate in the fight against the disease.
March 28 is American Diabetes Association Alert Day®
In 2023, the American Diabetes Association Alert Day falls on March 28. We encourage you to recognize this day by taking the National Institutes of Health Online Diabetes Risk Test — and by making sure that your senior loved ones take the test as well.
Let's Talk About Your Kidneys This National Kidney Month, and About Testing for Chronic Kidney Disease.
Your kidneys serve an essential role in your circulatory system. They are hard-working little organs that constantly filter the blood from your arteries, pass the filtered blood back into your veins, and remove the filtered waste products from your body as urine.
Without proper kidney function, waste products and fluids build up in your body, leading to a host of other issues. Eventually, last-resort procedures like dialysis treatments and kidney transplants may be necessary as it is not possible to live without at least one functioning kidney.
Overture Home Care receives 2023 Best of Home Care® – Employer of Choice Award
We are thrilled to announce that Overture Home Care has received the 2023 Best of Home Care – Employer of Choice Award! The Employer of Choice Award is granted only to the top-ranking home care providers, based on caregiver satisfaction scores gathered by Home Care Pulse, an independent satisfaction research firm for home care.
Compassionate care from Overture Home Care is now available throughout the DFW metroplex!
This year, we have an even bigger announcement to make — the opening of our second Overture Home Care office in nearby Dallas, Texas!
At Overture Home Care, we believe that your loved ones deserve the very best care so that they can age with dignity and as much independence as possible. We have been honored to provide that care and support to the residents of Tarrant, Johnson, Parker and Hood counties from our original location in Fort Worth, Texas. We will continue to provide that service, while adding support for the residents of Dallas County — including the communities of Highland Park, University Park, Addison, Farmers Branch and Richardson — from the new Dallas office.
Yes, You Can Get Fit at Any Age!
Exercise is a wonderful thing. It can truly be the fountain of youth. Along with rejuvenating your muscles, regular exercise can help lower blood pressure, improve balance to prevent falls, and help fight bone density loss, another issue for seniors. Everybody should start exercising right away. And here’s the thing: everybody can, regardless of age or fitness level.
Recognize the Signs of Malnutrition During National Healthy Weight Week
During this year’s National Healthy Weight Week (January 15-21) we encourage you to check in with your senior loved one to make sure that they are eating regularly, eating healthy food and showing no signs of malnutrition. We have included a link below to a downloadable document that will help you recognize those signs, understand the risks involved, and talk to your loved one’s medical team about possible drug interactions or fasting issues.

A Blue Zone Message of Holiday Hope from our CEO, Denise Helms, RN, BSN
Blue Zones are a handful of areas around the world where people enjoy quantifiably longer and more independent lives. In some of those areas — such as the Greek island of Ikaria — those long-lived folks also show near-zero rates for conditions like Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
Join Overture and Dementia CARES for Caregiver Education and Support
As we recognize National Family Caregivers Month this November, we must also recognize National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month — and the connection between the two through the family members devastated by the demands of caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
November is National Family Caregivers Month
According to a National Alliance for Caregiving / AARP study, about 34.2 million Americans just like you provide unpaid care to a senior adult every year. Some of those Americans have created organizations and non-profit groups dedicated to providing their peers with needed guidance, support and human connection.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
There are some health awareness months that need revisiting year after year. Unfortunately, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is one of them.
It’s Talk About Your Medicines Month!
In our last post on Breast Cancer Awareness Month we talked about the dizzying array of medications that can make organizing cancer care for the elderly a cause of anxiety not just for patients, but for their family caregivers as well.
Zach Tarrant looks back on three years as Overture Home Care Executive Director
Congratulations to Zach Tarrant on three years as Overture Home Care’s Executive Director! We’re thrilled that Zach Tarrant was able to find time in his busy schedule managing operations, overseeing performance, and planning the administrative aspects of our ongoing growth to share with us his thoughts on the past three years as our Executive Director.
September 11 is National Grandparents Day
We can’t think of a better time to celebrate National Grandparents Day than Healthy Aging Month, because family engagement — and connection to young people in particular — is one of the best tools we have to keep our older loved ones mentally, emotionally and physically sharp.
All grown up — Healthy Aging Month turns 30
Along with cooler weather (fingers crossed) September brings one of the most important celebration months in our calendar: Healthy Aging Month.
With Overture Home Care (and TAGS) you are never Home Alone!
On July 19, Overture Home Care participated in the Tarrant Area Gerontological Society (TAGS) Summer Forum. Our SVP Paige Wolk is currently the Membership Chair and past president of the TAGS board, and we enthusiastically support the TAGS mission to provide education, recognition and scholarship support to healthcare professionals who work with the elderly in our area.
Don’t Wait, Vaccinate: August is Immunization Awareness Month
One thing we all learned from the COVID-19 experience is that viruses mutate frequently and vaccinations need to be updated to remain effective against the new versions. This is true for the seasonal influenza virus as well, and it's why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have long recommended that everyone 6 months and older get an updated flu shot every year.
